Shelf for Timeless Toys

My husband has been unemployed for two months now and while it is frustrating at times not having a minis budget it also makes me think outside the square and think creatively. I am starting to look at some of the old commercial pieces I have in my stash to see what I can do with them.

Needing some shelves for Timeless Toys I decided to revamp some old shop shelves I have had in my stash since my first dabble in miniatures in the 1990s. The shelves were a bit fancy for what I have in mind for the toy shop and I also need to make use of every inch of space in the shop, so the panels at the base had to go.

I started with this:

and after cutting, sanding, redesigning, painting, aging and generally wrecking those nice shelves I have ended up with this:

I've put a few toys on just for effect but you will have to imagine it jamb packed with toys and probably with things hanging down the sides also.

I have another set of the shelves tucked away and may keep that set in its original state for the museum part of Timeless Toys. We will see.

On Saturday I am off to a miniatures show in my old home town an hour from where I live now. It is being put on by the miniatures club I used to belong to in the 1990s. It will be nice seeing the work of some other miniaturists and catching up with those that used to be in the club back in the 90s. I just hope they don't have too much on the sales table to temp me.

  3. No parece la misma estantería y la reforma ha quedado ideal para una tienda de juguetes y con mucho espacio. Me gusta mucho el color.

  4. They look a million times better! I was given a set of those shelves but didn't really like them so cut the bottom off, they are in my study, they look ok, better filled but I wish I'd been more brave and done something like you have, it's a complete transformation! Are you going to put paper at the back of the shelves with maybe more toys on so it looks like there is depth and more stock, or are you going to leave it as is so the focus is on the toys you do have? I love them anyway particularly the different sized shelves. Xxx

    1. You have such wonderfully creative ideas Freya. I think the idea of a paper with toys on would be really effective. I did look into putting paper on the back but I couldn't get the back off without doing a lot of damage and I figure I will be filling the shelves to the max anyway. I might put something at the back of the taller square section.

    2. I agree, the sections are fiddly, my partner keeps insisting that I don't have fat hands but I think that's the reason! I get so covered in paint!

I can't wait to see how it all turns out xxx

    1. I do intend to take my camera Jane and I hope to put a few photos on my blog. It will only be a small show as I think the club only has a small number of members but it is always interesting to see what other miniaturists are doing.

    2. Welcome to my blog Anda. I am so pleased you were able to join as a friend. I understand from some other blogs that other people are having trouble too. I remember visiting Budapest back in 1990 when I did my big OE (overseas experience). I remember visiting the Fishermen's Bastion.

    1. Thank you Caroline. The Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls in the box is a Paper Minis kit. He is just printed on paper but looks very effective.
